The assignment was to create works of art inspired by the garden outside the Carnegie Library in downtown Colorado Springs. The sculptural base of this piece recalls sculptural forms above some of the buildings' windows, below which you will find a stand of Shasta Daisies.

Music was a part of my life from early childhood. I'm sure I heard of the bass clef at some point before high school music theory classes, but the treble clef has been a friend since I started reading music in the 4th grade.

Remember the song from Sesame Street? I started with 4 blanks in two colors. The geometrical shapes came along, then the coppery-brown effects to accentuate them.

I’d been reading a lot about the recent political transitions in Afghanistan and Iran when I was working on this piece. As it came together, the fringe and shape reminded me of a burhka. The name of the piece followed.
